Choosing an Aggregate Trailer
Our aggregate tipping trailers come with three body materials: aluminium, steel, or insulated aluminium. Each has a use case that decides which suits your operation.
-
Aluminium: for hauling sand, aggregates and gravel. Aluminium isn’t as durable as steel, but it is much lighter, which makes it ideal for this work. These materials are abrasive, but they won’t dent the body when loading, so steel isn’t necessary. Our aluminium bodies carry wear plates at the rear, where wear is heaviest, so you protect the base metal and extend the life of the trailer with a low cost wear plate replacement.
-
Steel: for demolition rubble, breakout concrete and hard stone such as granite and quartz, anything an aluminium body can’t handle. These materials are incredibly abrasive and will quickly damage an aluminium body. Our steel bodies are made from HARDOX 450, a grade of steel from SSAB designed for exactly this work.
-
Insulated: for asphalt. The body is aluminium, but the walls are insulated so the load holds its temperature in transit.
We can also build an aluminium body with a HARDOX steel floor where the work warrants it.
T100 or T98?
For aluminium bodies you have two options. Both do the same job, with different body designs.
T100: the successor to the T98. A half-pipe body pressed from a single piece of aluminium. Fewer welds make it strong and long lasting, there are no sharp corners for material to stick in, and the curve keeps sign writing and decals clear of falling debris during loading.
T98: the classic design, built from extruded aluminium planks with an air gap, fully seam welded. The air cavity gives a degree of insulation and protects the paintwork from internal dents and from the heat of welding an internal plate, so the trailer keeps its appearance. The T98 is also slightly larger, at 31.4 m³ against the T100’s 30 m³. Superseded by the more popular T100, it remains the preferred choice for some operators.
Body Liners
Liners are an increasingly popular addition to our steel and aluminium bodies, and they earn their cost for many operators.
-
A lower tipping angle. Plastic liners cut friction when offloading, often discharging the whole payload in two or three cylinder stages. That keeps the centre of gravity low and reduces the risk of a tip over, which matters more as the ground drivers tip on gets worse. For wet, sticky materials like clay they are ideal.
-
Less noise. Sites in built up areas are increasingly regulated for noise. A liner helps on a steel body being loaded with demolition rubble.
-
Less wear. The liner wears in place of the body. Flip it over once the first face is worn, replace it at the end of its second life, and the body underneath is basically untouched. That holds for aluminium and steel bodies alike. A liner adds around 500 kg to your tare weight, so weigh that against the payload you give up.
Steel or Aluminium Chassis?
Our tipping trailer chassis are built from high tensile steel, light but able to absorb the twisting and flexing a trailer takes in service. In our experience it beats an aluminium chassis in almost every area. An aluminium chassis is slightly lighter, but you sacrifice strength for it.
Over time aluminium can become brittle and crack, and it is harder to repair, needing a more qualified welder than steel does. To reach the same strength an aluminium chassis usually has to be deeper, which raises the centre of gravity and the loading height. That is why we don’t use it.
Our team can talk you through which body suits your work, our finance options and the used trailers we have in stock. If you are comparing an aggregate trailer for sale, you are welcome to visit us and look one over.

Common Questions
It comes down to how they are made. A half-pipe body is pressed from a single piece of aluminium. A planked body uses aluminium planks that sit between the top and bottom rails, with an internal cavity between the skins.
Choose aluminium for sand, gravel and quarried aggregates, where the lighter body buys you payload. Choose HARDOX steel for demolition rubble, broken concrete and hard stone, which would quickly damage aluminium. We can also fit a steel floor in an aluminium body.
We quote every trailer on its own specification, because the body, the axle brand and the options you choose all affect the price. Tell us what you haul and how you load it, and we will send a full quotation.
We also hold stock trailers, so ask our team what is available now. If a trailer is in build or in stock, delivery is much quicker than a new build slot.
A liner cuts friction, so loads discharge at a lower tipping angle, and it wears in place of the body, on aluminium and steel alike. Flip it, then replace it, and the body underneath is barely touched. It adds around 500 kg to your tare.
Yes. We can arrange finance on a new or used trailer, with terms set around your business and budget. Ask our team about the options when you request a quote, and we will include them alongside the price.
The chassis carries a two-year warranty against structural defects, and the tipping gear is covered for three years. Axles and suspension follow the axle manufacturer's own sliding scale. We will confirm the full terms when we quote.
That depends on what you haul. Aluminium bodies carry a replaceable wear plate at the rear, where wear is heaviest, so the base metal is protected. Steel bodies are HARDOX 450, made for abrasive loads, and a liner extends either.
