Technical Detail

Chassis

The T250S frame is built from high-tensile steel I-beams that run the full length of the chassis, joined by high-tensile steel cross members and welded together. This gives a strong frame that can flex with the load, while keeping the trailer’s own weight down.

The main beams are about 200 mm deep at the front, rising to about 450 mm at the rear. The wheelbase is 6,725 mm and the chassis is about 9,435 mm long. A standard 2-inch kingpin is fitted, rated for up to 18,000 kg on the fifth wheel, and it can be replaced from below if it ever needs changing.

Before any pipework or wiring goes on, the chassis is degreased and shot blasted, then given a two-part epoxy primer. It goes through a KTL dip coating before painting and is finished with a PUR-acrylic top coat. Together, these layers give the chassis a high level of protection against corrosion.

The chassis can be finished in a choice of colours. The axles and landing legs are black, and the rear underrun bar is white.

The T250S runs on three air-suspended axles, available from SAF, BPW or JOST. Each axle is rated at 9,000 kg and plated at 8,000 kg for UK roads, and all three are designed for tipper work, including off-road use.

The first axle lifts automatically when the trailer is running empty, cutting tyre wear, and has a starting aid to help the tractor unit pull away when grip is poor. Ride height is raised and lowered with a rotary valve, and a quick-release valve speeds up lowering. On SAF axles, protectors are fitted to the air bags to make them last longer.

Braking is by drums on BPW axles, or discs on SAF and JOST axles, on all three axles. An electronic braking system with roll stability control helps prevent the trailer rolling over in tight or fast corners, and spring brakes are fitted on all three axles for parking.

Tyre pressure monitoring runs through the braking system and warns of a tyre losing pressure. The trailer connects to the tractor unit through UK-specification red and yellow air couplings. The air system also works the tailgate: a button releases the rear flap, and limit switches let the tailgate open as the body tips.

Tyres are 385/65R22.5 singles, six in all, from brand-name makers such as Continental, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Goodyear, Fulda and Michelin. The wheels are hub-centred, and the wheel studs suit both steel and alloy rims.

JOST 24-tonne landing legs are fitted, with two speeds: a fast gear for winding them down and a low gear for lifting the trailer under load. They are worked from one side, with the crank handle on the left so it is used from the kerb side, and braced for stability.

Plastic mudguards cover each of the three axles, with Kel-Berg mud flaps at the rear. Along the sides, anodised aluminium side guards are used in place of steel or plastic, so they resist corrosion, and they are bolted to the frame on large brackets. At the back, the underrun bar is a rectangular tube that folds up out of the way and is held with a pin on a chain.

Lighting is LED throughout. The rear lights are set into the lamp panel behind chrome rings rather than surface mounted, white marker lamps sit low at the front, side marker lamps run along the chassis, and the number plate has two LED lights.

The trailer connects to the tractor unit through two 7-pin ISO sockets and an EBS socket, with a 9-core cable running front to rear. A junction box at the rear makes it easy to add connections later.

The chassis comes with a 2-year warranty against structural defects. The axles and suspension are covered by the axle manufacturer’s own sliding-scale warranty.

Bodywork

The trailer is fitted with either an Ebdro CS17 or Hyva FC A16 front-mounted hydraulic tipping cyclinder.

Available Extras

Options that can be specified to this build at order.
OptionalPlastic Body Liners

The liner wears in place of the body, and it discharges sticky loads at a lower tipping angle. Flip it, then replace it, and the body underneath is barely touched.

OptionalSide-to-Side Sheet

A roll-over sheet that runs across the body from one side rail to the other, so the load is covered and water tight.

OptionalOnboard weighing

A weighing system reads the load as you fill, so you know you are inside your axle and gross limits before you leave the quarry.

OptionalCamera system

Cameras give the driver a view behind and around the trailer, for reversing onto a tip and working in traffic.

OptionalFront-to-back sheet

A sheet that runs the length of the body from the headboard to the tailgate.

OptionalAluminium wheels

Lighter than steel rims, so you carry a little more payload, and they keep a smarter look on a liveried fleet.

OptionalCustom livery

Your own colours, logos and contact details applied before delivery, so the trailer advertises your business from its first load.

OptionalFranchise livery

Have the trailer finished in Heidelberg Materials, Holcim or Tarmac franchise livery before delivery, ready for their contracts from day one.

OptionalFront gantry

A platform and handrail at the front of the body, giving safe access over the headboard when you need to get to the load.

OptionalInspection ladder

A fitted ladder gives safe access into the body for checks.
