Technical Detail

Chassis

The Scania P430 XT sleeper cab (CP20N) is finished in woven seat upholstery with black plastic door trim and rubber floor mats. The driver’s seat is medium profile with an adjustable shock absorber, heating, lumbar support and an armrest, alongside a matching passenger seat with heating and an armrest. The steering wheel is right-hand positioned in black leather with metal trim on an ergonomic D-shape 450 mm rim, adjustable for tilt and slide, with infotainment and voice controls built in.

The driving area is well specced: a 12.9-inch interactive centre display, a Stoneridge Smart 2 digital tachograph supporting remote reading and automatic recording at border crossings, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB/AM/FM radio through a four-speaker system, and Bluetooth for three phones. Automatic climate control, a rain sensor and a manual roof hatch complete the cab.

Externally, the XT package brings a 150 mm high-level bumper with horizontal extension and a fold-out step, an external sun visor in cab colour, and ribbed mirrors, heated and electrically adjustable both sides. Entry uses remote central locking with two keys, and the cab tilts mechanically on heavy-duty suspension.

The lower bed is 800 mm wide, fixed, with a pocket-sprung mattress and reading lamps on both the left and right side. Curtains cover the windscreen, door and bed for privacy and light control. A WTA 3 kW night heater keeps the cab warm with the engine off, and rear wall storage lockers include a refrigerator, backed by external storage compartments on both sides of the cab. An extended-configuration 24 V socket in the cab, a 20-metre tyre inflation hose, a compressed air gun, a bulb and tool kit and an emergency rescue kit are also carried for the driver’s use on the road.

The P430 XT carries Scania’s DC11 102, an 11-litre, five-cylinder Euro 6e engine producing 430 hp (316 kW) at 1,800 rpm, and 2,200 Nm of torque from just 950 rpm. The low-rev torque means power is effectively delivered when pulling a full load from standing start, without revving the engine hard, then settling into efficient cruising on the road.

Drive is delivered through Scania’s G25CM1 Opticruise 14-speed range-splitter gearbox, an automated, two-pedal transmission with crawler and overdrive gears spanning a 26.81 total ratio range, and economy, standard and off-road performance modes selectable from the dash.

The RB662+R660 tandem drive axle set runs a 2.92 differential ratio with a diff lock for traction on poor ground, giving a calculated cruising speed of around 82 km/h with the engine in its recommended rev range.

The 8×4 layout runs twin 7,500 kg front axles on parabolic leaf suspension (3×29) with an anti-roll bar, and a rear tandem rated to 21,000 kg technical capacity on parabolic leaf suspension (2×38 + 2×45).

Braking is discs all round on an electronic system with ABS and anti-slip regulation, plus hill hold and a pneumatic parking brake. Scania’s Compression Release Brake works alongside a manual and automatic exhaust brake, controlled from a lever to the right of the steering wheel or the brake pedal, for high combined braking power on laden descents.

Wheels are Alcoa brushed aluminium 22.5 x 8.25 rims fitted with Goodyear KMAX S Gen-2 steer tyres and Goodyear OMNITRAC D drive tyres, both 295/80 R22.5, monitored by a 12-sensor tyre pressure monitoring system.

A 325-litre aluminium fuel tank (297 litres usable) is mounted on the left-hand side with a locking filler cap, a fuel heater, splash protection and an anti-siphon device against theft, and a Fuel Optimisation Unit positioned ahead of the tank. The 47-litre AdBlue tank sits on the right-hand side.

Emission control is Scania’s Twin-SCR system to Euro 6e, with NOx-based torque reduction and a vertical exhaust outlet discharging clear of the cab.

The chassis carries an ED7R WBF3(G) engine-driven power take-off with two electrical circuits, switched from an instrument panel push button, powering the mixer drum hydraulics directly from the engine. A second, gearbox-mounted PTO connection is also wired with its own instrument-panel switch, for additional hydraulic demands.

Lighting is LED throughout: main and dipped beam headlamps, daytime running lights and direction indicators, with automatic headlamp operation, a roof-mounted spotlamp, halogen bumper fog lamps and LED tail lamps.

Electrical power comes from a 180 Ah battery bank on the left-hand side and a 100 A alternator, with a double-acting battery master switch operated from inside the cab for safety.

A Scania Communicator C400 (standard E modem region) provides over-the-air updates, with navigation and Scania Secure Interface map updates included for 7 years online. The Stoneridge Smart 2 digital tachograph supports remote reading and automatic recording at border crossings, keeping the fleet connected and compliant.

The GSR safety package includes driver attention support and advanced driver distraction warning, emergency braking indication that triggers the hazard lights under sudden or automatic braking, and vulnerable road user collision warning to the front and side (left-hand, for right-hand drive) with rear detection. A reverse buzzer with a driver switch and a self-adjusting white-noise reverse alarm protect those around the vehicle, and speed sign information is read from a forward camera and map data with an audio warning.

Security is covered by an immobiliser, a battery monitor and a smoke detector, with wiring fitted for an alcolock ignition interlock and additional pressure sensors fitted ready for a remote engine-start system, both of which can be added without further rewiring.

The chassis cab is supplied with 12 months’ Repair and Maintenance warranty cover.

Bodywork

The 9 m³ drum comes from Schwing-Stetter’s Light Line platform, designed to keep drum weight down. Geometric volume is 15,000 litres with a 12.45° drum inclination.

The mixing spiral’s main wear zones are 500 HB steel, with 550 HB steel on the blade sides where aggregate contact is most aggressive. A roller greasing point on the rear pedestal makes daily greasing a ground-level job, and a front-mounted drum lock secures the drum when needed.

Drum drive is a PMB planetary mixer gearbox powered by a Bosch Rexroth A4VTG90 axial piston pump, a closed-circuit hydrostatic drive purpose-built for truck mixers. A complete oil cooling system with thermostat and fan controls hydraulic temperatures.

Drum speed is set by a fixed four-position electronic control (EDC), holding the selected drum speed independent of road speed.

A 500-litre pressurised water tank supplies the wash-down and slump-adjustment water, driven by compressed air from the chassis braking system (Schwing-Stetter’s AIRSYSTEM). A 500 L flow meter with valves meters water into the drum, with the inlet duct integrated into the feed hopper.

Fill connections are fitted both sides of the truck, and two wash-down hoses (3 m at the top of the ladder, 10 m at the bottom) cover drum, chutes and truck at the end of the run. An external level indicator shows tank contents at a glance.

Discharge is via a swivel chute with a 4 mm wear liner and manual telescopic adjustment, plus two plastic extension chutes stowed on the mudwings with a locking stowage point. A rear-facing slump-meter pressure gauge gives indication of the mix without climbing the ladder.

Cable drum controls are fitted both in the cab and at the rear control station. Access to the feed hopper is by sliding ladder onto a full platform with a fall-protection gate.
