Technical Detail
Bodywork
The body is a low profile beavertail deck, approximately 8 m long, built on folded steel crossmembers outrigged from the crane subframe at 300 mm centres for a rigid, level loading surface. 8 mm angle side raves run the length of the body, with a round breakbar at each break-point of the sloping deck for a smoother transition when winching loads on and off. The deck surface is 28 mm Keruing hardwood on the flat bed, stepping up to 32 mm on the slope and ramps.
The 1,000 mm headboard carries steel infill to window height, is hot-dip galvanised and etched with the Kel-Berg name. Two chain bars are fitted to it, and it also carries the winch plate and fold-out LED worklights (see Load Security and Lighting & Electrics).
The rear of the body carries a double bend beavertail, giving a shallow loading angle of approximately 12 degrees for easier vehicle and plant loading. Twin 2.5 m x 1.0 m Cheesewedge ramps fold forward hydraulically and are fully hot-dip galvanised for corrosion protection.
Ramp movement is powered by a dedicated electro-hydraulic powerpack, operated from a control button box and spool valve fitted to the nearside of the body.
Loading is handled by a Palfinger PK 33002-EH, rated at 305.0 kNm (31.1 mt) with a maximum lifting capacity of 10,000 kg and hydraulic outreach of 21.3 m, extending to 29.4 m with the fly jib. A 4-section hydraulic extension boom and Power Link Plus double linkage with 15-degree reverse geometry let the crane reach through low openings and work close to obstructions.
Rack and pinion slewing gives a 400-degree slew range, and the HPSC stability system calculates the permitted working area for the slewing angle and support in use, with Paltronic 50 giving electronic overload protection and load display. Hydraulically extendable, 180-degree tiltable stabilizer legs set up quickly, and operation is by Scanreco radio remote control with linear levers. An 8-tonne load hook is fitted, and crane leg pad stowage racks are fitted to the body.
Lashing rings are recessed into the top of the side raves at nominal 900 mm spacing along the flat deck, with further rings mounted underneath the raves on both the flat deck and the slope, giving 34 lashing points in total. Recessed chain trays sit in the two outer bays at the front of the deck, keeping chains stowed clear of the load area.
A pair of stacker twistlocks is fitted for container work, and a guarded winch plate is mounted at the front of the body, recessed into the headboard space.
Slide-out access steps and grab handles are fitted at the front of the body, with handrail sockets recessed into the side rave. Hydraulic steady legs are fitted at the rear with auto-lower, giving a stable base for crane operation.
All body electrics run through a single fully enclosed wiring loom with sealed boxes and super-sealed connections, protecting the wiring from corrosion. Two fold-out LED worklights on the headboard illuminate the deck area, and low profile LED beacons are fitted to the rear corners.
Rear corner outline marker lights and rearmost side marker lights are fitted, alongside chassis-supplied side marker lights along the flat deck. White conspicuity tape runs along the side raves and red conspicuity tape across the rear.
The body is shot blasted and cleaned before finishing in two-pack paint to your colour choice. The headboard and ramps are hot-dip galvanised, giving sacrificial zinc protection that outlasts paint in wet, abrasive work.
