Choosing a Vacuum Tanker
Kel-Berg or VJ Engineering?
Both tankers share the core of the job. Each has a Jurop RV360 vacuum pump rated at 360 cfm, a Speck high-pressure jetting pump, and a 4,200-gallon tank split into 4,000 gallons of waste and 200 gallons of clean water. Both have a hydraulic rear door and clamps, 4″ Bauer inlet and outlet connections, and two float-ball cut-outs that stop liquid reaching the pump.
The Kel-Berg tanker is designed and built by Kel-Berg. Its carbon steel tank is built and tested to the Pressure Equipment Directive under independent notified-body inspection, and is CE and UKCA marked. It sits on a galvanised modular subframe, carries 40 m of jetting hose on a hydraulic reel, and has two walk-through anti-surge baffles. The kit list includes a stainless toolbox and washout box, lockable hose trays on both sides, a hand wash unit and six 2,100 lm work lights. An emergency stop on the rear panel shuts the engine down.
The VJ Engineering tanker is built in Rugby, in carbon or stainless steel. It carries 30 m of jetting hose, adds air-purge frost protection to the jetting system and a stainless debris chute around the rear door, and comes painted white to match the cab. Each tank is pressure tested and UKCA marked.
Carbon or Stainless?
Carbon steel suits sewage, water and most non-hazardous sludges, and costs less. Stainless steel grade 304 resists corrosion far better and needs no internal coating, so it is worth the extra if your waste streams are more corrosive. The stainless option is available on the VJ tanker.
The Chassis
Every tanker in the range is built on the DAF XD 450 FAX 8×2 sleeper cab, plated at 35,000 kg GVM. The 10.8-litre MX-11 produces 449 hp, with 2,350 Nm from 900 rpm, through a TraXon 12-speed gearbox with shift software for liquid loads and urge-to-move for creeping into position on site. The rear trailing axle steers for tight streets and lifts automatically when the load allows, putting more weight on the driven axle for traction. A twin-output gearbox PTO runs two hydraulic drives from one installation.

Common Questions
We quote every vacuum tanker on its own specification, because the tank builder, tank material and options you choose all affect the price. Tell us how you will use the truck and we will send a full quotation.
Build times depend on the tank builder and chassis availability, and we sometimes hold stock units ready to go. Ask our team what is available now, and we will confirm a delivery date when we quote.
Both carry 4,200 gallons with the same Jurop vacuum pump and Speck jetting pump. The Kel-Berg tanker is our own build, with a galvanised subframe and 40 m of jetting hose. The VJ tanker comes in carbon or stainless steel, with 30 m of hose and frost protection.
Carbon steel suits sewage, water and most non-hazardous sludges, and costs less. Stainless steel grade 304 resists corrosion better and needs no internal coating, so it suits more corrosive waste streams. The stainless tank is available on the VJ Engineering tanker.
No. Both tankers are built for non-hazardous work, such as sewage, water and non-hazardous sludges. Carrying hazardous waste needs a tanker built and approved for it, so talk to our team about what you plan to carry.
Yes. We can arrange finance on a new vacuum tanker, with terms set around your business and budget. Ask our team about the options when you request a quote, and we will include them alongside the price.
The DAF chassis comes with Warranty Plus, covering the vehicle for two years and the driveline for three, with breakdown cover. The VJ tanker body carries a one-year warranty, conditions apply. The Kel-Berg tanker body comes with 2 year warranty.
Both tankers have a primary float-ball cut-out inside the tank and a secondary overspill shut-off, which stop liquid being drawn into the vacuum pump. A filter on the suction line also keeps grit out of the pump.
