Cornwall based plant hire firm Duchy Plant Hire Ltd acquire two new Kel-Berg trailers to support the company’s rapid expansion.
Duchy Plant Hire Ltd are a relatively new firm, having only began in 2018, however this by no means diminishes what the company has achieved in that time. Duchy has been able to grow its fleet to 13 vehicles which includes a number of 8 wheeler tippers, two beavertails,
a crane lorry and three artics. Whilst this is certainly impressive, Duchy are aiming to further expand their fleet to 23 vehicles in the next 12 months.
The company typically opts for Volvo and Scania equipment for their rigid equipment, however Mercedes is another brand you’ll see in Duchy colours upon the arrival of their two new rigids very soon. The same is true for their tractor units, operating two Volvo FH’s, a Scania R450 and soon a new 80 ton Volvo for their new low loader trailer.
Duchy’s core business activities are plant hire and haulage. Their plant hire involves the transportation of equipment of varying weight classes; from 1 ton mini diggers up to 30 ton excavators, dumpers and rollers. Duchy haulage is primarily muckaway and aggregates. Other services offered include crane lorry hire and bulk trailer haulage. Duchy’s two latest pieces of equipment are a Kel-Berg low loader machine carrier and T100
aggregate trailer.
Duchy hire out a number of 22 and 25 ton machines and saw an opportunity for STGO transport in the Cornwall area, so a machine carrier was a logical next step. The aggregate trailer is a similar story. The high number of quarries located in the Cornwall area again presented an opportunity for further success.
The new aggregate trailer was certainly a good decision. Jamie Shelton, sole director of Duchy Plant Hire Ltd, said “We don’t see the trailer at all. Since we got it, it has been flat out. So busy in fact we have had to order another”. “The driver loves it and it does look great in our colours.
There weren’t any features that stood out particularly but I was confident that it was in the top 2 or 3 trailers available in the market. I got in touch with Simon who was brilliantly helpful. He provided a great service and really assisted in making the choice”.
“The VWS WiFi weighing system is also brilliant. Having the driver able to access that information from his phone is a fantastic idea”. The two trailers will be used for general day to day business, however the T100 may soon appear on the new A30 extension hauling stone.
